He used his knowledge of the Alaskan terrain and his love for hunting to stalk and kill these women, often disfiguring their bodies afterward.

Hansen’s killing spree began in the late 1970s and continued into the 1980s. He was able to abduct and murder women without raising suspicion for years, as many of his victims were vulnerable individuals who wouldn’t be missed by society. She was found by a passerby, terrified and covered in chains, and her description of Hansen’s appearance and the details of the abduction led investigators to his door. Hansen was arrested shortly thereafter.

The Arrest and Trial.

Once Hansen was in custody, authorities discovered a horrific collection of evidence in his home. Hansen’s photos of his victims, his detailed records of the murders, and even maps of locations where he had disposed of the bodies were found. As Hansen was interrogated, he confessed to his gruesome crimes, showing little emotion as he spoke about his killings. His calm demeanor and lack of remorse further disturbed investigators.

In 1984, Hansen was convicted of the murders of four women and was sentenced to 461 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
