video 7)THE POWER OF I AM — Manifestation, Inner Freedom and Healing

If life has taught you to say “I am broken,” “I am unwanted,” or “I am powerless,” listen carefully. Those statements describe experiences and feelings, but do they describe the entirety of who you are? Neville Goddard taught that the words I AM point to awareness itself, before any label is attached. Today we will explore his original meaning, how he connected it to manifestation, and how his teaching can help someone begin rebuilding an inner identity after fear, rejection, or emotional pain.

ONE — WHAT I AM REALLY MEANS

In At Your Command, Neville identifies I AM with awareness of being. Before you say “I am tired,” “I am afraid,” or “I am successful,” there is the awareness that you exist. In his interpretation of scripture, that awareness is divine. This is not simply a motivational slogan. It is the foundation of his metaphysical system. The labels after I AM can change. The basic sense of being is prior to them. That is why he asks the student to begin with awareness rather than with the circumstances that seem to define them.

TWO — THE WOUNDED IDENTITY

Consider someone who has been humiliated for years. Eventually, the words “I am worthless” may feel like a personal truth. Neville would ask us to notice the identification we have accepted. Healing asks a compassionate question: what if the hurt was real but the verdict of worthlessness was false? This is not permission to deny trauma or blame anyone for what they endured. It is an invitation to loosen the grip of a painful label. You can remember your history and still refuse to reduce your whole being to it.

THREE — THE MANIFESTATION POWER OF ASSUMPTION

Neville taught that the state you assume inwardly is central to manifestation. The point is not merely saying “I am prosperous” while feeling only desperation. His method is to imagine from the position of the person whose desire is already fulfilled. Ask yourself how life would feel if the desired change were natural. In his philosophy, consciousness is the creative foundation of experience. That is his spiritual conviction, not a scientific guarantee of any particular external result. Yet the exercise offers a concrete way to practice a new self-concept.

FOUR — THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AFFIRMING AND BEING

A sentence can be spoken without being accepted. Someone can say “I am confident” a hundred times while mentally rehearsing failure. Neville’s deeper point is that you must occupy the state, not just pronounce its name. Imagine having completed something you once thought impossible. Feel the quiet relief, the steady confidence, and the ordinary naturalness of that accomplishment. What does that version of you believe? How does that person respond to setbacks? How would they treat themselves? That is the direction of the practice.

FIVE — I AM AND SCRIPTURE

Neville drew heavily on biblical language, particularly the divine name I AM. He interpreted these passages psychologically and spiritually, seeing the presence of God as the awareness of being. Viewers do not have to share every part of his theology to understand what he was teaching. The important point is to distinguish the pure awareness of existence from the many temporary descriptions attached to it. He did not regard I AM as a magic phrase; he regarded it as the identity from which assumption begins.

SIX — HEALING AND MANIFESTATION TOGETHER

Manifestation in Neville’s teaching involves inwardly occupying a chosen state. Healing involves learning not to make fear, shame, or rejection the final definition of yourself. These ideas meet when a person chooses to practice being worthy, peaceful, capable, or free. If you desire a healthier relationship, imagine what mutual respect feels like—and also maintain boundaries. If you desire meaningful work, imagine the relief of an offer—and also apply. If you desire emotional recovery, imagine a steadier self—and seek support when you need it. Inner transformation does not cancel practical responsibility.

SEVEN — ENTER THE I AM STATE

Now we come to the practice itself. Find a quiet, safe place. Sit comfortably and allow your breathing to settle. For a moment, set aside the labels that usually follow your name. Do not struggle to remove thoughts. Simply notice that you are aware. Quietly recognize: I AM. Before you describe yourself as wounded, rejected, successful, or unsuccessful, there is awareness. Rest there for a moment. You do not need to force a feeling or prove anything to anyone.

EIGHT — MANIFEST FROM THE CHOSEN STATE

Now choose one desire that matters to you: peace, confidence, a new opportunity, a loving relationship, or financial stability. Ask: Who would I be if this were already fulfilled? Choose a short scene that implies it has happened. Hear a trusted voice congratulating you. Feel the relief of knowing. Enter the scene as yourself, not as a spectator watching from far away. Let it feel ordinary and believable.  Neville’s instruction was to assume the fulfilled state, return to it, and let it become natural. Afterward, live your life and take the practical steps available to you.

NINE — WHAT ABOUT THE PAST?

An old wound may return to your thoughts tomorrow. That does not mean you failed. Healing is not a competition to suppress every painful emotion. You can grieve, seek help, and still practice a new conception of yourself. Neville’s teaching asks what identity you will cultivate; it does not justify blaming people for violence, illness, poverty, or loss. When fear speaks, you can answer with compassion: “This happened to me, but it is not all that I am.” Then return to the chosen state without self-punishment.

YOUR I AM IS NOT YOUR WOUND

Remember the distinction: I AM comes before every label. Neville taught that you can consciously assume a new state and experience it as fulfilled. You may not be able to change yesterday, but you can begin changing the way you relate to yourself today.
